About our Program.

The National Science Foundation/CSUN Data Science program prepares students to enter the technical workforce as data scientists. The program includes a six-week summer boot camp between followed by a two-semester-long data science research experience, career workshops and seminars with data science practitioners during the academic year.

Recent Graduates

Recent graduates have obtained internships frome such diverse employers as the
Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), General Motors, PennyMac, NASA AMES, NASA Armstrong,  Human IT, Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (NAVWAR), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), CSUN Autonomy Research Center, Family Focus Empowerment Center, North Valley Regional Center, Health Equity Research and Education Center, Nflux, Northrop Grumman, and Microsoft.

Other students have been accepted into both Master's degree and Doctorate programs at various universities, including Georgia Tech, the University of California at Irvine, the California State University at Long Beach, University of Southern California, Penn State, Purdue, and CSUN. 

Invitation to Apply - Summer 2020 (closed)

The 2020/2021 program begins with a summer boot camp between July 6 and August 14, 2020, and is followed by a two-semester-long data science research experience, career workshops and seminars with data science practitioners during the 2020-2021 academic year.

CSUN students or transfer students are welcome to apply regardless of your major or minor. However, preference is given to students with at least one statistics course and one programming class (or like experience) with junior or senior standing who are seeking careers in data science. There will be meetings on every other Wednesday afternoon featuring data science speakers and career workshops and weekly meetings with your advisor.

Students who are admitted to the program will receive a $2000 stipend for completion of the summer course. Students will also work on a long-year data science project with an advisor and receive another stipend of $500 per semester. US citizenship or permanent residency is required for program participation.

Application deadline is February 15, 2020. After an initial review, we may contact you for an additional interview.
